Duvet days – catalysts for change

YOU know those days when you wake up, open one eye and get an incredible urge to bury yourself deep under the duvet again?

I don’t mean because it’s cold, or because your loved one is lying next to you, all snugly and warm… I mean those days when hiding from the world seems the far preferable option.

We’ve all experienced that. If you don’t want to admit it to me, that’s fine, but at least be honest with yourself, eh?

Sometimes it’s not immediate. Sometimes, we wake up bright and joyful, then something triggers a memory, or fear, or any other negative reaction and all of a sudden, with every ounce of our being, we want to disappear into a ‘safe’ place. Not many of us have caves in our homes, so that warm place under the duvet seems the next best option.

So here’s the thing… if you need a day to retreat, take it. Call in sick, take a day’s holiday, cancel all your plans, whatever it takes. Then USE it!

Don’t waste your duvet day
Don’t just wallow. Take your comfort from that snuggly bed cave, and then CHOOSE to work out exactly what it is you’re trying to hide from. That’s the only way to defeat it. You can’t deal with an issue if you refuse to understand it or name it.

When we stop loving our lives – when we stop loving ourselves – when we stop dancing, singing, smiling (even on the inside), and when we stop wanting to get out of bed and embrace the day, it’s time to make some changes. And change doesn’t need to be scary. It’s the resistance that creates the fear. It’s refusing to identify the real issue. No wonder we go into fight or flight if we can’t quite see what it is we feel is out to get us.

So use that duvet day. Pick up a pen and notebook and start writing down all the things you want to hide from, then jot down the reasons why. And when you’ve done that, on the next page start writing down everything you WANT to attract into your life… AND the reasons why. Imagine all that positive change actually happening, and be as specific as you can when listing all you want. See it. Live it. Breathe it. Feels good, doesn’t it?

Take action
Now, what’s stopping you? Take a look at those two lists and decide what needs to change from the first list to enable the second. What do you need to do to start manifesting your dreams?

Inaction won’t make it happen, so get up out of that bed and start feeling that enthusiasm for all you want to attract.

Start making a plan!

Straighten your back. Take some deep breaths, right down from your diaphragm, feel your feet on the floor, swing your arms, wiggle your toes, roll your neck, punch the air, smile… whatever it takes… just MOVE! And decide that from this moment on, your life is for living.

Get out there and start working towards your dreams. You deserve that at least!
